A New Hobby

With my approaching departure at Bizopia and my future at Texas State, I will begin a new hobby to spend more of my time on: painting with watercolors. I’ve been working with acrylics for a long time and I want to rediscover the art of watercolors. This has actually been a growing aspiration for awhile and with my current state I think I can start a new hobby. Dee bought me supplies to start as a Christmas gift. I even bought a book to help me with the techniques. It’s called The Complete Guide to Watercolor and it contains a lot of information and photos of how to work with watercolors. I should have bought the book before because there a lot of things in here that should have been read before buying supplies. I really like working with watercolors and I’ll post my progress in the future.

Full-Time

I will be going back to school full-time next semester, and attending Texas State University. Going to work full-time and taking classes has become very stressful. I thought that I could do it all but then finals came and projects needed to be finalized. It isn’t for me. Work has been great and it was really nice working with everyone. I kind of forget about school work while I am designing. When I started working in February it was nice to just come home after work and relax. Then I decided to take classes at the community college to earn more credits. That is when my schedule became pretty full, and I started getting more headaches. Although I didn’t get into my major I think Texas State will be great for me. They have a great art and design department that I am looking forward to work with. Now I need to find a place to live. I’ll try an apartment but housing might be better for me.

St. Paul’s

St. Paul's

On Friday Dee and I went to St. Paul’s Methodist Church so I can take photos for my Art History class. The project was to goto a church in Houston that has gothic elements in it’s architecture. I choose St. Paul’s because I remember it looking really nice and had a tall bell tower. The sky was really nice during the afternoon. I could only take photos of the exterior because I would have to call them to get permission. It was Friday afternoon and it didn’t look like anyone was there. Plus I just didn’t want to ask.

The church looks like it is a gothic inspired modern designed church. Probably during the Gothic revival period. The strongest elements that I recognized are the elaborate decorative sculpting, the portals in the west entrance, pointed arches, and many finials. It’s a beautiful church. I would go if it wasn’t so far away.
